Nominate your Conservation Hero

Do you ever feel like someone is doing so much to protect the places you love in Colorado that you’re inspired to call them your hero? Now’s your chance to thank and honor that special someone.

Nominate a person or organization that demonstrates an outstanding commitment to conserving land and water in Colorado.

We'll celebrate 5 Conservation Heroes at a ceremony and reception in Golden, Colorado in September 2022.

We look forward to hearing who your hero is!

ELIGIBILITY

  • Nominee can be an individual person or an organization, such as a private (nonprofit or for-profit) entity or a public agency. In other words, we’re open!

  • Nominee must reside/be located in Colorado. Because… you know.

KEY DATES

  • Nomination deadline:
    May 15, 2022

  • Awards notifications:
    Late June 2022

  • Celebratory awards event:
    Early September 2022

NOMINATION CATEGORIES

  1. Advocacy Hero: Outstanding local elected official, state/federal legislator, or community-based vocal and stalwart advocate for conservation in Colorado.

  2. Volunteer Hero: Outstanding volunteer who has dedicated time, energy and passion to conservation in their community, e.g. in land stewardship, property monitoring, educational outreach, office support or other volunteer capacity.

  3. Community Partner Hero: Outstanding nonprofit group, local business or government entity that has partnered or collaborated with a conservation organization, such as a land trust or open space agency, to achieve common goals and vision.

  4. Land Trust Innovator Hero: Outstanding nonprofit land trust or land trust leader that has developed new and creative programs, adopted unique approaches to conservation or engaged its community in conservation in new ways. (View a list of Colorado land trusts)

  5. Land Protector Hero: Outstanding landowner who has demonstrated longtime and ongoing support of conservation, and works tirelessly to promote conservation on their property and in their community, e.g. through stewardship, restoration, public education, conservation easement donation, advocacy or other activity.

  • What are 2-3 examples of ways they advance land or water conservation?

  • In what ways do they show their dedication and commitment to conserving Colorado for the future?

  • How might your hero complete the sentence, “Protecting Colorado’s land and water is important to me because…”

  • If a person: What is their connection to Colorado and its landscapes?

  • If an organization: What is the organization's focus as it relates to conservation?
